Testing & Certification
Rapspan Tool has an extensive procedure in place to control the quality of the tools you purchase and includes but is not limited to the following:
Materials
- Chemical analysis
- Tensile
- Hardness
- Impact
Before we test the tools, test certificates are requested from the materials supplier and these are verified when the material has arrived in store.
10% of all tools are tested by a NATA accredited laboratory to ensure material quality is maintained. Each of the spanners is stamped with a unique number which will relate to a material batch number. Should problems arise after the tools are manufactured all tools will be traceable.
Geometry
10% of tools are checked for compliant geometry with a minimum of 10 critical dimensions verified on each part. 1% of all tools are laser scanned and the data verified with the original part model.
The laser scanner used, has an accuracy of +-0.02mm. The associated software enables us to do a best fit on the tool or fit the point cloud to a known point. Either way we end up with a realistic comparison between the scanned part and the model part.
The laser scanner is calibrated annually
Strength and Ultimate Design Testing
Ultimate design testing is carried out on each tool model before it is launched by a NATA accredited laboratory.
The testing consists of loading the tool attached to a mandrel fixed to the be of the testing rig. Load is then applied to the handle using a hydraulic cylinder and increased until the tool is permanently deformed of breaks.
The final report on the results are supervised and reviewed by Monash University and the tool is certified accordingly. The tools are tested to a minimum of 2 times their rated torque and eventually to destruction. The test is videoed to record the process and verify the procedure.
